She is a true Malaysian, the whole Malaysia is inside her and her art work. I am sure I will miss her, when festive seasons come.
I met Yasmin during the pitching of Bank Pembangunan’s first foray into Merdeka advertisement. Had discussions and watch her in action as she directed our first television commercial. All I can say is I adore her professionalism. Her creativity. Her view on life as a true Malaysian as depicted in her commercial for us. Yasmin Ahmad is phenomenal. A star that shines so blindingly bright. But at the same time a humble human being. Such talent and professionalism are hard to come by. And for just being you and opening the eyes of Malaysians beyond racial boundaries, Yasmin, I salute you. You are the true embodiment of 1Malaysia. The only 1 Yasmin in Malaysia. Always imitated but never duplicated. RIP. May Allah Bless You Always.
You are more than a human being Yasmin, you were close to God to many Asians
“Yasmin has left us…” The finality of this sms from Adoi was heartbreaking. Yasmin’s passing left an incredible void in the ad world. We are humbled by her brilliance and humanity. May she rest in peace.
Having only met Yasmin a few times I can’t claim to have know her personally but her work and films I do know. Her untimely death should be a lesson to us all to find what you truly love in live and make the most of the gift of life everyday. Yasmin certainly did and we should be joyful that she led such an exceptional life and brought such inspiration to so many.
I met Yasmin when she came to Jakarta to share her knowledge and inspire the advertising community. The audience loved her! Yasmin is a generous soul and has touched many people from around the world. She will be missed! Farewell my friend.
Who will make us laugh at ourselves?
Who will make us weep as a nation?
Who will make us proud pf our culture?
Who will make us fall in love with Malaysia over and over again?
Yasmin, please make a movie in heaven so we can watch it when we get there.
Al-Fatihah.. you are still my idol…
Yasmin is one talented soul. May she rest in peace.
We, at the advertising fraternity will miss her presence & most of all her great work. She unites Malaysians together in all her works and awakens us to look beyond skin & colour.
Yasmin was the best catalyst for great ideas. Every time we worked together, she had the fantastic ability to make her creative partners think ‘outside the box’. When the ideas that we managed to beautifully create took form, it was normally a simple concept which had the ability to touch many hearts. I will miss you dearly
Yasmin is a true leader at her field; advertising and film industry. She plays only the best and expects the same from her peers.
Now that she is gone, whom will guide us or be the yardstick …
Yasmin is Leo Burnett….. and Leo Burnett is Yasmin
She was a mother…to everyone who knew her……
Will miss her so much
AL- Fatihah dear mom.
We mourn the loss of a compassionate soul.
We are thankful that such an insightful human being was placed in our world to prick our conscience and allow us to appreciate life in all its many facets. We are ever grateful for her unselfish and abundant sharing of her creative manifestations.
Guided by a need to tell a story – we laughed, we cried, we complained, we critiqued, we celebrated, we rejoiced, we yearned for more… Such is the contribution of a great storyteller, one who brings the best out of all of us – emotionally and spiritually.
We are indeed privileged to have experienced the power of compassion and creativity from one great heart. In our sorrow for the loss of a friend to many, we will celebrate her legacy of telling truly human stories.
Rest in peace Yasmin Ahmad.
We talk about One Malaysia today when someone had been communicating this message for over a decade in her story telling through her Merdeka Ads, Sepet, Gubra, Muallaf, Mushkin, etc. Tribute to Yasmin, for a very special soul who reminded us all the time, what it means to be a Malaysian…..
I have never met her, but I feel I know her, her work has touched me..my family and everyone I speak to tell me the same.
She was indisputably in a true sense a Malaysian at heart and displayed ever so in her work. A rarity of person, a gem that you come across once in your lifetime.
Rest in Peace, Yasmin.

In the end, how do you remember a great lady?
By the things she did
By the things that she said
By the principles she lived by
And the advice that she gave
You remember her by her friends
And the legacies she left behind
In the end, you remember a great lady for the life she led…but much much more, for the life that she inspired you to lead.
As an ad person, I admired her work. Equally importantly, and in common with millions of other Malaysians, I simply enjoyed watching it. A truly original voice that will not be replicated, and who has left us with a great, lasting legacy that extends well beyond advertising.
Min told me a story once.
She had met this lady in a poverty-stricken part of India. The lady, by our definitions was poor. She had a measly, erratic source of income and lived day-by-day. But on the days she did have wages at all, she will use it to buy simple groceries. Then she cooked up the rice, dhal and some gravy for anyone who wanted food.
Min wondered why she did not keep the money for herself, especially since she would not know when she will get paid again. When she asked, the lady showed an open palm and said “too many people in the world ask, and ask, and ask…” Then she pinched her fingers together, pointed downward and continued “…And too few give. I don’t know where my next meal would come, but it will I am sure”.
Siince then Yasmin has told me many, many stories. She has, and will continue to, make me want to be a better person.
I miss her.
For those in the industry, don’t ever forget that we have a responsibilty. We are, and can be, shapers of society. Don’t ever think it’s a slog and a meaningless job; if you do, then you shoould be elsewhere. We have the chance to affect positive change. We are empowered that way.
You might call this ideal, but I’d like to call it Yasmin.
Thanks Min. I won’t forget.
I started to know about her from “Sepet’ what a beautiful story that touches all races. You are such a talented woman with guts, with all my respect I will mis you dearly. No one can replace you, you are my idol, you are one and the only Yasmin. Love and misses you forever. R.I.P Yasmin
News of Yasmin’s completely knocked the wind out of me. I sat down and pondered my own mortality, while reminiscing the times we spent together. She introduced me to Malaysia in 2001 and she shared her unique knowledge of the best eating spots in town. We shared stories, jokes and more fine food from out of the way places. She treated everyone with genuine kindness and respect. She would call at the oddest hours but it never seemed strange. It felt like a gift to her voice and share her infectious laughter. Just thinking about her makes me smile and my heart feels lighter. And if I keep those memories alive, I guess Yasmin will never really be gone.
My sincere condolences to her family and friends.
God bless you,
Love, Barney x

Today a local Malay tabloid,KOSMO! print a front page apology to Yasmin’s family for publishing an insensitive article about our darling ad genius. When I read the article published on Monday, July 27 2009, front page I was shocked beyond believe! Appaled! How could a paper who claimed to be ‘akhbar yang dekat dengan masyarakat’ be so insensitive to Yasmin’s family by publishing such articles in their times of bereavement. Damage is already done. Its a little too late to apologize. The editor should be intelligent enough to think before publishing such insensitive article. Yasmin has contributed a lot to the country through her creative work. Such articles are totally DISRESPECTFUL. SHAME ON YOU FOR PUBLISHING SUCH INSENSITIVE ARTICLE KOSMO!!!
i don’t know why i am still very upset towards of Yasmin until today……
every morning i will think of her
just like a daughter missing her mother……
lost of her like lost of part of my body
i will miss her forever
i love you, yasmin~~
She felt with her heart. I remember walking the streets of Bali with her and Adrian Miller. We shared so many things including our love for poetry. She was so full of life, so unpretentious. She had so much positive energy, you could feel it. I always felt some of her earlier works deserved better local awards. Perhaps some of the foreign judges didn’t get the nuances she captured so beautifully…well Yazmin thanks for being such an inspiration.

im proud n happy that i have got this life time to b inspire n enjoy her works….haha….she is my idol….
She inspired me with ‘One little Indian boy’. Since then I wanted to be an ad man. I dreamed of working with her, and I did.
She showed me what integrity is, what love is, what being a true Malaysian is, what it means being colour blind and how we can leave things to God.
I am grateful to have known Min and to share part of my life with her.
Miss you, Min- lover of love and life. You’re a diamond that shone on my life brightly, albeit briefly.
I always remeber my ‘jendela’ moments with Yasmin when I was in LB. She is one of the most admired person that I have worked with.
Rest in peace yasmin. God Bless.
It is indeed a privilege to have been acquainted with Kak Min and also having the opportunity to work with her in all her international award-winning films. Kak Min was a talented and creative director and not to mention how understanding she was during working with her in the post production works of all her films. All of us in Gaya Lab enjoyed doing her films. Kak Min, we will miss you dearly. May you continue to shine a light on us from your rightful place among the pantheon of GODS.
Kak Min was the first person that gave me a taste in advertising. And our meeting was a one in a million chance. 3 years ago, I was on my way to accept an offer from a well-known agency but I stopped halfway to go to Leo Burnett instead. I don’t know why but it was a pivotal moment in my career. I went up with my portfolio and told the receptionist that I had an interview with this person and at this specific time (but I didn’t know anyone there). After a flurry of questions asked by the receptionist regarding my fake interview, she asked me to take a seat. At this point, I knew I was going to get caught and I should just pack up and leave. But in a split second, from the escalator, came Ali and Kak Min herself. I didn’t think and got up and chased after her. I told her, I didn’t know anyone there and I have no interview but I asked if she can have a look at my portfolio. She looked at me and said ” You don’t know anyone and you don’t have an interview? You got balls, come let’s talk.”
The rest was history. And I will forever remember that day for as long as I live, how kind of a person she is.
